My name is Lisa Rogers. I was born in 1961 and raised in Southern California. My family and I live in Palmdale ,California...(that's the High Desert) . My husband of 24 years ,Mark and I have three children, three dogs and a cat.
I am a self taught artist / wood carver. I truly enjoy what I do and feel very blessed. It brings me great joy and I am most pleased to be able to share it with all of you. My artistic ability became apparent at a very early age. Thank you :) To my dear parents, family and friends who's love and support nurtured my "gift" throughout the years. I have always loved nature and animals and thus began my career drawing and painting "critters" All kinds...Great and Small when I was just 6 years old. Having a particular fondness of the beloved Dog, faithful and loyal companion, "Man's Best Friend". Which supplies me with an abundance of subject matter :)Over the years I have experimented with clay, paper mache, dried gourds and other techniques in order to create "form and shape". Carving is the reverse process of this and it is why I find it so challenging. My wood working skills have evolved into my own unique style through trial and error. I especially enjoy creating sculptures from driftwood and other natural materials found on yearly camping trips to various locations. I love working outdoors and to be sitting "Creekside", carving with my loved ones near by seems to be from where my greatest peace and inspiration flows. (Walking along the beach or cruising a Lake with my husband and the doggies works well too !)I carve and paint Wildlife, Dogs, Santas, Cats and an array of Folk Art as well. I never really know what will emerge next from the beautiful pieces of wood that I have personally hand selected. Material is removed with a variety of power tools and carving knives and, of course, sand paper. Each is then painted with acrylics and finally sealed with clear coat to protect. Sometimes I apply antique finishes and stains to achieve a desired old world feel. Always letting the sculpture guide me rather than wrangling a piece of wood into something is how I work best. It's just not something that can be forced.
~ I hope you enjoy viewing the showcase of my creations ~
